The deep blue boards with white lettering and illustrations have the merest of wear at the corners and spine ends. Inside the book there is only a very faint inscription at the top of the map page. The unclipped DJ shows a price of $ 3.95 crossed out and penned $ 3.19. I think this is a second state DJ with 5 brief reviews on the rear cover. There is some loss of color along the right edge of the front, some dirt on the rear and chips of color loss but overall a GOOD bright DJ! The classic modern novel, one of the earliest in the psychological thriller genre, and basis for the 1962 Robert Aldrich film, starring Bette Davis, Joan Crawford and Victor Buono.

The first edition PAN X434 was published in the UK in 1965 with a cover by Raymond Hawkey and "Not for sale in the in the UK", 250,000 copies were printed in July 1965.
The second edition of PAN X434 were printed in 1966 and shipped with a movie tie-in cover replacing the Hawkey scorpion and pearl cover. PAN Books had remaining stock of the first printing of 1965 with the Hawkey cover and applied a wrap of the movie tie-in edition to the remaining 1965 copies.
There is no record as to how many of these variants were shipped by PAN, the majority of the authentic variants discovered over the years have been found in Australia.
This a good unread copy, has tanned pages and foxing. The foxing is on the inside of the cover and first page, first page has a vertical tanning section where the wrap faces, this tanning supports the authenticity of this being the actual book shipped with the wrapper and not swapped out for another copy, there is a remains clipping to the front cover. Gilt decorated green cloth boards illustrated with Peter Pan, two Mermaids and the Crocodile, all within a decorative border, on front board. Spine with lettering and illustration including Captain Hook, Peter Pan, two Mermaids and some Fairies, all stamped in gilt. Cloth and gilt are very bright and vibrant on the spine and front board. A remarkable, tight and fresh copy with a small neat previous owner name to the front free endpaper and a tiny amount of foxing to just a handful of pages. The endpapers have some offsetting as a result of the glue used in production otherwise this is a near fine and bright copy of this classic book in the rare publishers original dustwrapper.
