Front cover is a full color full-page self portrait of the artist/author. Back cover is black leatherette. Arnold Greenfield (1918- 1996) was an attorney and lifelong painter. One of the paintings was done by Greenfield wife, the pianist, music teacher, founder of the Fine Arts Conservatory in Miami, professor and civil rights pioneer Ruth Greenfield (1923 - 2023.) Other paintings feature Ruth as the subject. The paintings were done between the 1940s and 1990s and include self portraits, family portraits and many which reflect the Greenfield's time in France. There are some nudes. The recipe collection includes family recipes from… Read More

Description:
Whether you are a collector of unique cookbooks, or a heritage chef that can translate German, or you remember a favorite recipe from your German grandmother, this is a wonderfully unique early 20th century cookbook that is looking for a new forever home. Published as a blank book, probably in Bavaria, Germany, c1900, it has side tabs that identify the different types of recipes to be added in each section. Possibly written by different cooks based on the handwriting, the front sections still have some blank pages but the last five sections after salads have all the pages filled. A rarity even in Germany where it was published, this well-preserved copy is truly a keepsake that deserves to be treasured.
Condition: Leather edition with spine and corner tips in black textured leather with remainder of board in dark green cloth. The title "Koch Recepte" embossed on the front cover in gold gilt with an old German typeface shows some rubbing but is still legible. The leather back strip has four blind… Read More

1777 Cookbook MENON French Cuisine Cooking for Women Wine Liquor Food Recipes

The Menon Cookbook is perhaps one of the most famous 18th-century cookbooks ever published. While the identity of the author is never revealed, he is generally referred to as Menon. 'La Cuisiniere Bourgeoise' is one of the best-known and oft reprinted cookbooks and features hundreds of recipes and food preparations along with beer and wine making, ingredients, and strategies for cooking. Menon is known to include fewer seasonings and ingredients that are cheaper thus creating a sense of 'lower-class' food; even though Menon focuses on beautiful and eye-appealing dishes.

This cookbook was also known to be the very first cookbook devoted specifically to a woman cook. Menon himself said that the title could be read as either 'cuisine' or 'woman cook'. Either way, it answered a real need in France of female home-cooks along with recipes acceptable for the bourgeois. (Willan, 218-225). It was also the only cookbook to be… Read More
