Charles Cotton and Izaak Walton's 'The Complete Angler' was an important and extremely popular game and hunting book from 1653. Walton sought to celebrate the everyday fisherman and hunter, providing tips, tricks, and first-hand observations on fishing, and hunting through the lens of a conversation between two fictional anglers.

This 1784 edition includes woodcut illustrations most of which depict fish and fishing tackle.It was edited by John Hawkins, and the Hawkins editions are some of the best of all 'Angler'
editions.

The frontispiece is an original etching pencil-signed by Schaldach. William Joseph Schaldach (1896-1982) was a writer on art and outdoor sporting, editor for Field and Stream, and most notably an important American wildlife artist. The book offered here is beautifully bound in full vellum with a gilt vignette of a trout rising to a mayfly on the front cover. In addition to the original art of the frontispiece, there are 60 full-page reproductions of Schaldach's fish art. The book is in very good condition: clean, bright, and tight; some rubbing and discoloration of the velum.. SIGNED. Limited First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket, as Issued. Lovely, unread copy, signed by Robert Post and stamped with his red fish stamp. These signed copies are increasingly hard to find. First edition, first printing. No marks at all. Dust jacket is not price clipped. I will add signature confirmation to the book when it goes out.

Wackett states that only 500 copies were printed and now very scarce.

Interior portfolio is in Near Fine condition; it contains a printed introduction by Jens Rosing and eight pages of lithographs containing two illustrations each (for a total of 16). The interior portfolio is slightly creased at the top of the fold; lithographs and introduction are in Fine condition; upper corner on first lithograph very lightly bumped; final lithograph has small bend at top and a smudge towards the bottom.
