1844 Sportsmen Instructions Guns Shooting Hawker Game BEAUTIFUL Leather Binding

"Instructions to Young Sportsmen in All That Relates to Guns and Shooting" by Lieut. Col. Peter Hawker serves as an essential guide for the 19th-century novice in the realm of shooting and game pursuit. Originally penned in 1814 for a close circle of Hawker's sporting companions, the book focuses on practical insights drawn from years of the author's hands-on experiences. Hawker prioritizes conveying the intricacies of approaching wild birds, a topic he believed was less commonly addressed. Moreover, he delves into the specifics of guns and other related subjects, strictly relying on his own experiments and findings rather than leaning on other publications. The work stands out for its authentic content, shunning embellishments or borrowed anecdotes. Written in a direct, conversational tone, Hawker hoped to impart invaluable knowledge to his readers while seeking understanding for any perceived stylistic shortcomings.… Read More

275 Pages. Stated First edition and by the full number line. Inscribed and signed by the author on the first page in from the front cover. The dust jacket is Not price-clipped. This is a great fun reading book of classic hunting stories. The book's dust jacket has lightly worn areas along its top and bottom edges, has inside stains along with some light staining on its exterior bottom spine edge and in varying places on the the front scover, and lastly, on the front side a crease and a very slight line cut. The interior book is in Near Fine to Fine condition with the only detriment being a small spot on the exterior book's front cover probably made by a dirty fingerprint. Outside of that and the author's inscription and signature though, there are no other visible extraneous markings, detriments, or distractions, and thus all of the book's printing is in a very well-preserved and enjoyable condition and the book's sewn-in bindings remain tight and therefore are sound. Description:
1910 Theodore Roosevelt 1st ed African Game Trails Illustrated HUNTING Sporting

"Knowing what's right doesn't mean much unless you do what's right."
― Theodore Roosevelt

The twenty-sixth president of the United States was also a world-renowned hunter, conservationist, soldier, and scholar. In 1908 he took a long safari holiday in East Africa with his son Kermit. Roosevelt describes the excitement of the chase, the people he met, and flora and fauna he collected in the name of science. Long out of print, this classic is one of the preeminent examples of Africana and belongs on every collector's shelf. According to Czech, this work is:
"one of the most famous of all big game hunting epics. In British East Africa, Roosevelt hunted lion and plains game on the Kapiti Plains, while, in the Bondoni Hill Country, he collected rhinoceros and giraffe."
