A lovely first printing of the first American edition [Marek New York (1980)], signed by author Robert Ludlum directly on the front free end paper. The book is in very good condition with some wear on the board edges and bowing in the boards. The book has no remainder marks, a tight and square binding, sharp corners and with no owner inscriptions or highlighting. The dust jacket is in near fine condition, price-clipped, but with the correct date code (8003). The jacket has minimal shelf wear at the extremities of the spine but no chips or tears. Handsome, fresh first edition of the first of Ludlum's five Bourne spy thrillers that have resulted in as many feature films. Ludlum (1927-2001) signs the front flyleaf large and bold in blue fineline. Laid in is Kroch's & Brentano's "First Edition Circle" bookmark. A choice copy and seldom seen signed.

The volume has a slightly concave spine, is bumped at the ends , and there is a light red mark on the page edges (remaindered?). The unclipped dust jacket, sleeved in mylar, is edge rubbed with some scratches and creases.
